Virgin to accept e-signatures on mortgage declarations

Virgin Money has started accepting electronic signatures on mortgage declarations.

The lender says it will no longer require a so-called “wet” signature on most residential and buy-to-let mortgage forms.

It means that customers will be able to sign electronically in a number of different ways.

Applicants can either type their name into the declaration, paste an image of their signature into the form, or use their finger or a stylus pen to sign on a touchscreen device.

They can also use certain online platforms to automatically insert their signature.

Certain forms will still require a paper signature, including where the borrower has received a gifted deposit and where they are using the Mortgage Guarantee Scheme.

The changes are designed to streamline the process and reduce delays for borrowers and brokers who may be working from home.
